SGI UK Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is part of SGI-UK - one of over 190 organisations throughout the world which together make up SGI (Soka Gakkai International).

Soka means the 'creation of value' and Gakkai means 'society'. SGI is the world-wide movement based on Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, and its teaching of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which encourages the development of the individual's greatest potential

On January 2nd 2009 Daisaku Ikeda will celebrate his 81st birthday!

This remarkable man has worked tirelessly for more than 60 years to promote peace and understanding around and has built a foundation for the spread of Buddhism through the SGI movement in more than 192 countries and territories around the world.

He has been recognised as a philosopher and peace builder by over 200 universities and institutions around the world and is constantly acclaimed for his work to build a sustainable peace in our lifetime.

Daily Guidance:

When we plant the seed of happiness that is faith and carefully tend its growth, it will produce without fail. We have to bear in mind, however, that we cannot plant a seed today and expect it to bear fruit tomorrow. That's not reasonable and Buddhism is reason. If we persevere in the practice of "faith equals daily life" in accord with reason, then our prayers will definitely be answered. This is Nichiren Daishonin's promise to us. And his words
are true beyond any doubt.
